FUSC Rate Increasing October 1st, 2023
The Federal Universal Service Charge (FUSC), an FCC-mandated surcharge, will increase from 29.2% to 34.5%, effective Oct. 1, 2023. The new rate will reflect on your October bill.
The new FUSC amount is calculated by multiplying the FCC’s universal service contribution factor times your interstate service charge and ARC (Access Recovery Charge). This amount will vary depending on the type of telecommunications service you have.
The FUSC is used to finance the Universal Service Fund partially. This fund expands technology to schools, libraries, and rural health providers. Many of our local schools have benefited from this fund. It also helps rural telephone companies provide affordable telephone service to all customers, regardless of a sparse or widespread population.

If you have any questions about the federal surcharge, please contact Red River Communications at 701-553-8309.
