Red River Communications is now taking applications for a motivated and skilled Outside Plant Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will install, splice, maintain, and repair our broadband network’s outside plant infrastructure. This includes fiber-optic cables, distribution cabinets, and underground facilities. As an Outside Plant Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of our fiber-optic network and the overall satisfaction of our members and customers. What You’ll Do:
  • Install, maintain, and service data circuits, fiber-optic cables, wireless subscriber modules, protection devices, and customer-owned equipment.
  • Splice and test fiber-optic cable.
  • Proficient with test equipment such as VOM, ethernet tester, Wi-Fi analyzer, cable fault locator, OTDR and fusion splicers.
  • Maintain and update customer network information in NISC and NOC360.
  • Assist contractors working near buried facilities – where necessary.
  • Consult customers to determine problems and acceptable resolutions.
  • Complete installation and repair-related documentation and reports in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently – with moderate supervision, and make sound technical decisions using information.
  • Works safely and complies with all safety and company policies set forth by Red River Communications.
  • Display a positive work attitude and professional appearance, plus maintain a clean, efficient work area and company vehicle.
  • Understand that these are not the sole responsibilities; you will perform all other duties as needed and assigned.
  • Regular, reliable, consistent, and punctual attendance is required.
  • Hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Must participate in the on-call rotation schedule.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

This position is responsible for installing and repairing fiber-optic communication networks and services, including broadband, managed Wi-Fi, phone, digital TV, and cameras. Responsibilities require discretion, judgment, tact, and poise.

What You Bring:
  • Must possess a valid and insurable driver’s license.
  • Education Requirements: Minimum – High School Diploma / GED equivalent
  • Ability to continuously read, write and speak with clarity.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications plant equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Skill in operating various office equipment such as personal computers and devices, different software programs, and telephone systems.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with co-workers and various business contacts. Must be a team player and possess the ability to work with moderate supervision.
