Red River Communications is seeking a motivated and curious Accounting Intern to join our telecommunications cooperative. This internship is designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of both accounting functions and the broader telecommunications business. In addition to supporting core accounting activities, the intern will gain exposure to operations, customer service, network infrastructure, billing systems, and strategic decision-making processes.

This role is ideal for a junior or senior college student who wants to understand how accounting integrates with all areas of a dynamic, technology-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities: Accounting & Finance Support:
  • Assist with accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice entry and payment tracking
  • Support monthly close activities
  • Help review financial reports, budgets, and forecasts
  • Assist in tracking and maintaining inventory records for telecommunications equipment and supplies
  • Help reconcile physical inventory counts with accounting records
  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends and insights

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management with a concentration in accounting
  • Strong interest in learning about both accounting and business operations
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles; completion of intermediate accounting is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Power BI is a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and take initiative
Details of Position:

Duration: Minimum commitment of summer 2026 with ability to extend for the right fit, minimum 20 hours onsite per week, Monday-Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm
Compensation: $18-20 per hour DOE

As a Data Network Intern, you’ll step directly into the world of real network operations—working alongside our team to help install, maintain, and improve the systems that deliver high-speed fiber internet to our communities. 

You’ll gain hands-on experience with the same tools and technologies used by professionals every day, while learning how a modern telecommunications network actually works—from the core network all the way to customer connections.

Key Responsibilities:

Actively encourages teamwork, open communication, and cooperative interaction by promoting a positive work environment that reflects the company’s vision and values while completing the following responsibilities: 

  • Network Operations & Maintenance 
  • Assistance with installation, configuration, maintenance, and upgrade of network infrastructure, including LAN/WAN equipment, routers, switches, firewalls, fiber, video, and Wi-Fi systems. 
  • Monitor network performance to ensure reliability and efficiency. 
  • Assist with the installation and maintenance of network equipment at offices, customer locations, and field environments. 
  • Troubleshooting & Customer Support 
  • Learn proper diagnosis techniques and help resolve network hardware, software, connectivity, and customer device issues. 
  • Collaborate with outside plant technicians and other teams to resolve service and equipment problems. 
  • Technology Implementation & Upgrades 
  • Assist with research, testing, and deployment of new network and video technologies in lab and production environments. 
  • Learn to upgrade network, Wi-Fi, and video/TV equipment, including software/firmware updates. 
  • Network Security & Policy 
  • Learn about monitoring and cybersecurity software that is used by a telecommunications service provider to protect a business network and a fiber optic network. 
  • Learn network policies, procedures, and standards in compliance with organizational and industry best practices. 
  • Reporting & Documentation 
  • Maintain accurate documentation of network configurations, topology diagrams, upgrades, and standard operating procedures. 
  • Complete administrative paperwork, service orders, and compliance documentation as required. 
  • Safety & Compliance 
  • Conforms to all safety practices on the job with tools and vehicles. 
  • Supporting network installs and upgrades  
  • Learning network monitoring and cybersecurity tools  
  • Helping document and maintain systems that keep our network running  
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Networking, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Strong interest in learning about both network infrastructure and telecommunications systems
  • Basic knowledge of computer networking concepts (LAN/WAN, IP addressing, Wi-Fi)
  • Completion of introductory networking coursework or certifications (such as Cisco or CompTIA) is preferred
  • Proficiency in basic computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with networking tools, command-line interfaces, or configuration software is a plus
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Eagerness to learn, ask questions, and take initiative

Southern Valley Utilities, a subsidiary of Red River Communications, is looking for a skilled, detail-oriented, and self-motivated Fiber Splicer to join our team. This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in Wahpeton, ND. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic cable facilities that support our telecommunications and broadband services. We are looking for someone who is hardworking, pays close attention to detail, works consistently within established processes, takes pride in high-quality work, values safety, and thrives in a hands-on, technical environment.

What You’ll Do:

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing fiber optic cable used in telecommunications, internet services, and other data transmission systems. This role requires technical expertise, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting overall company goals.

  • Maintains network by testing to locate trouble, opening cable to repair or replace defective sections using proper splicing techniques in the closing and sealing of cable facilities. 
  • Performs the splicing and testing of cable plant owned by the company and according to approved procedures and specifications. 
  • Is responsible for charging in and out of all materials which are used in the installation, maintenance, removals, and changes that are performed daily that fall within the parameters of this position. 
  • Ability to work on and repair state-of-the-art cable and fiber-optic facilities. 
  • Responsible for controlling and maintaining inventory as needed.  
  • Ability to set up copper/fiber counts as needed in new and existing cable facilities.  
  • Prepares trouble reports, work logs, cutover sheets, and other regulatory forms via software available for this application. 
  • Stays current on cable technological developments, especially in fiber optics, splicing techniques, and other regulatory and industry standards. 
  • Is responsible for filling out a daily time sheet. 
  • Transfers customers’ service from one cable and/or terminal to another. 
  • Performs all duties safely and uses all provided personal protective equipment. 
  • Conforms to all safety practices on the job as well as with tools and vehicles, and reports any issues to be repaired or replaced. 
  • Ability to install, maintain, and service data circuits, copper and fiber optic cable, wireless subscriber modules, protection devices, and customer-owned equipment. 
  • Proficient with test equipment such as VOM, ethernet tester, Wi-Fi analyzer, cable fault locator, OTDR and fusion splicers.  
  • Maintains and updates customer network information in NISC and NOC360.  
  • Assists where necessary with contractors working near buried facilities. 
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals. 
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, and to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.

What You Bring:
  • 2 years of fiber splicing experience preferred. 
  • Valid, insurable driver’s license required; Class A CDL required.
