MN Broadband Line Extension Program

The Minnesota Broadband Line Extension Connection Program, administered by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Office of Broadband Development, provides financial assistance to help extend existing broadband infrastructure to eligible unserved locations.

If your home or business doesn’t currently have access to reliable high-speed internet, this program may help reduce the cost of extending fiber service to your property.

The Broadband Line Extension Connection Program was established by the Minnesota Legislature to help bring broadband service to locations that remain unserved.

The program provides grants to eligible internet service providers to extend existing broadband infrastructure to qualifying homes and businesses. By helping offset construction costs, the program makes it more affordable to connect rural properties that would otherwise be difficult or expensive to serve.

In general, a location may qualify if it:

  • Is located in Minnesota.
  • Does not currently have access to wired broadband service offering at least 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload.
  • Requires a broadband line extension from an existing network.

Eligibility is determined by the Office of Broadband Development and the program’s requirements.

If your property is located within or near our Minnesota service area, our team can help you:

  • Determine whether your location may qualify.
  • Review available fiber service options.
  • Evaluate the cost of extending service.
  • Guide you through the application process if applicable.
  • Answer questions about construction timelines and installation.

Our goal is to make the process as simple as possible while helping more rural families, farms, and businesses gain access to reliable fiber internet.

A fiber internet connection provides the speed and reliability needed for today’s connected world, including:

  • Working remotely
  • Online learning
  • Video conferencing
  • Streaming TV and entertainment
  • Smart home devices
  • Precision agriculture
  • Small business operations
  • Telehealth services

Reliable broadband isn’t just about convenience—it’s about creating opportunities for rural communities to thrive.
