FUSC Rate – Effective January 1, 2025
FCC announces proposed first quarter 2025 universal service contribution factor
The Office of the Managing Director issued a public notice on Dec. 12, 2024, announcing the proposed universal service contribution factor (Federal Universal Service Charge (FUSC)) for the first quarter of 2025 will be 36.3%, up from the previous quarter’s 35.8%. The new rate will be reflected on the October bills.
The new FUSC amount is calculated by multiplying the FCC’s universal service contribution factor times your interstate service charge and ARC (Access Recovery Charge). This amount will vary depending on the type of telecommunications service you have.
The FUSC is used to partially finance the Universal Service Fund. This fund expands technology to schools, libraries, and rural health providers. Many of our local schools have benefited from this fund. It also helps rural telephone companies provide affordable telephone service to all customers, regardless of a sparse or widespread population.
To learn more about Universal Service, follow this link to the FCC’s website: https://www.fcc.gov/
If you have any questions about the federal surcharge, please contact Red River Communications at 701-553-8309.
