We are thrilled to announce that Red River Communications has been awarded one of 61 Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development Border-to-Border Grants for $2,157,663!
This last mile project will upgrade approximately 315 underserved locations near the Breckenridge, Doran and Foxhome areas of Wilkin County. In a funding partnership with the State of Minnesota, Red River will improve broadband service levels to 1 Gbps download and 1 Gbps upload, exceeding 2026 state speed goals, with capacity for future 10 Gbps deployment. Red River is matching the $2,157,663 grant amount to complete the project.
“Fiber broadband is truly the backbone of a thriving economy, and with this project, Red River Communications is proud to be helping rural Wilkin achieve these goals,” said Tom Steinolfson, CEO/General Manager at Red River Communications. “I want to thank the State of Minnesota and the DEED office for this grant opportunity. Grant programs like Border-to-Border, prove that Minnesota believes highly-rural communities, such as Wilkin County, deserve high-speed broadband access.”
