Red River Communications and the Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) are partnering to offer one-time $2,500 scholarships to students from rural America for their first year of college, university or vocational-technical school. The FRS College Scholarship Program seeks to encourage students to return to their rural communities upon completing their education.
The parent or guardian of the high school senior graduating in 2017 must have service from Red River Communications and the company’s general manager must sign the scholarship application. Submitting this one form may also qualify you for more scholarships:
- The FRS Starulakis Family Scholarships will provide four $5,000 awards and will give preference to students with an interest in science, math, medicine, or engineering. Students with a focus in the sciences will be automatically considered for these Staurulakis Family Scholarships.
- The Everett Kneece Scholarship is a $ 7,000 award to one exceptional student and gives particular preference to students who express an interest in returning to rural America upon completing their education —a goal that philanthropist Kneece stressed as critical for strengthening rural America.
FRS applications are available at http://www.frs.org/youth-programs/college-scholarship-program. Applications are due March 1.
